Chapter 23

He should go after her.

No, he shouldn't.

He was furious about her claims about Miss Bingley. What on earth was Elizabeth talking about, Miss Bingley "throwing" Georgiana into Bingley's path? He would never stand for such! Was it true—did he just not notice because he was too busy feeling lust and desire for Elizabeth?

Had he truly failed to protect his sister from such designs, again?

Georgiana hadn't made any complaints. Surely, if Miss Bingley was doing as Elizabeth claimed, she would have told him, right?

Darcy fell back into a chair in frustration. He sighed. What had just happened between him and Elizabeth? How did she even come to learn about Georgiana's prohibition from visiting Longbourn?

He should go after her.

No, he shouldn't.

It wasn't that he didn't trust Elizabeth. He knew, deep down, she was probably the most trustworthy person he had ever met. The truth was, he just didn't trust Georgiana.

And he didn't want her out of his sight.

Did he want to call on Longbourn all the time? No! He couldn't stand being around that family! Elizabeth was the only Bennet he wanted to be around, but it was clear that he just screwed that up. She probably wouldn't even want to speak to him anymore after this quarrel.

He should go after her.

No, he shouldn't.

Oh, what did it matter anyway? Miss Bennet would get better soon, and she and Elizabeth would be gone from Netherfield in a matter of days. He probably wouldn't see her again—oh wait, Bingley told the young Bennet girls that he would host a ball. He groaned at the thought. Just great. A ball.

People.

Dancing.

Simpering matchmaking mamas.

And Elizabeth looking completely gorgeous and dancing with every eligible man in the room.

That image alone—other men dancing with Elizabeth—sent his blood pressure up with pure unadulterated jealousy. Darcy couldn't stand the idea of her dancing with anyone else but him. But she probably wouldn't dance with him now...

He should go after her—

No, he shouldn't.
